Santa’s Secret Elves Fund:

The Employee Club continues to raise funds to support the Santa’s Secret Elves Program. The Santa’s Secret Elves Fund assists Thomas Memorial Hospital employees in times of need. In 2007, ninety-eight Thomas Memorial Hospital employees received over $23,000 in assistance. Contributions to this fund can be made through payroll deduction or a one time gift.

Stroke Screening Fair:

The annual Stroke Screening Fair is held in April. Physicians volunteer their time to evaluate patients for signs of a potential stroke. The Stroke Screening Fair has assessed as many as 125 participants for stroke each year. The participants receive medical tests including: full panel blood work, cholesterol screening, blood pressure check, carotid artery assessment by a physician and a 3-Lead EKG (if needed). Also, an American Heart Association film about the warning signs associated with a stroke and educational materials are provided.

The Stroke Screening Fair provides a valuable service to the Thomas Hospital Community. If you know the risks and the signs of a stroke, you may know how to keep a stroke from striking and causing irreversible damage.

Children’s Health & Safety Fair:

The annual Children’s Health and Safety Fair is held in May. It is always an overwhelming success with fun for all. Over 1,400 people attend and 600 bicycle helmets are distributed to eager children. Numerous health and medical care professionals team up with the community to encourage safety and accident prevention. Medical Staff and Physicians are available to provide free health screenings to children and educational materials to parents on a variety of issues. Local fire fighters educate children on home fire safety. Pediatrics Nurse Manager Sandy Young coordinates this event.

Infant Car Seat Program:

Over 900 infant car seats were provided this year to families whose babies were born at Thomas. We believe safety is very important for everyone, especially our new babies. The infant car seat program continues as one of the special projects funded by the generous donations from our community and from the TMH Employee Club..

GAP Program:

The “GAP” Program is vital to the complete recovery of elderly and indigent patients who are released from Thomas Hospital. Many patients have needs in order to continue their recuperation at home but cannot afford them. “GAP” funds provide for items such as medications, co-pays, scales for congestive heart patients, blood pressure cuffs, injections, bandages, walkers and nebulizers. The Social Services Department at Thomas Hospital carefully screens candidates to ensure that the funds are being spent in a fiduciary manner.
